Kyle Cook - Indigenous Student Advisor and Program Coordinator
Kyle is a third-year undergraduate student studying a BA in Social Justice & Community Studies. Kyle grew up in a rural Indigenous community on the West Coast of Newfoundland. He has been an active volunteer with SMU Habitat for Humanity Society, assisting with the building of affordable housing in Halifax and Texas in 2019.
In Kyle’s time at SMU he has worked with ResLife as RainBEAU Committee Chair, where Kyle created safe spaces for 2SLGBTQ+ students to explore and express their gender identity and sexual orientation. Kyle plans to use his bachelor's degree to fight social inequality occurring in rural Indigenous communities like his own and building a stronger sense of community for Indigenous people.
